Xbox Gamer Hooks Up Controller to Car Battery Charger

A clever Xbox player comes up with a very unusual quality-of-life hack by hooking their gaming controller to a car battery charger.

A gamer has come up with a wild idea: hooking up their wireless Xbox controller to a car battery charger to avoid ever needing to change the batteries during the game. Running out of battery can be frustrating for gamers playing some of the best open-world titles available on Game Pass, for instance. This unusual life hack could solve that, even if it looks somewhat cumbersome.

Ever since wireless controllers for consoles became a thing during the 2000s, they made most gamers’ lives easier in several ways. Most people no longer would need to sit close to the television or risk their families constantly tripping over wires while they play. However, this new reality created new problems. Sometimes, gamers run out of batteries and need to stop playing during engaging sections to look for another one or recharge.

Now, one clever gamer solved this old issue once and for all by plugging his Xbox controller into a car battery charger. Matnheimer had this impressive idea and decided to share their setup online with others. In the picture, it’s possible to see the hands of the gamer holding the controller while they sit far from the TV, but near the charger. By playing this way, the gamer was able to play for hours on end without ever needing to change batteries or stop playing while they were recharging.

Some people in the comments of the Reddit post were pretty thrilled by the idea, which is seen by many as a clever way to solve a long-standing issue. However, a few gamers weren’t quite as impressed. Epocast, for instance, commented that the gamer essentially reinvented the Xbox wired controller. Others, such as Civil_Manager_1966, believed that this hack was quite an overkill, and the OP should have bought rechargeable AA batteries instead of doing such elaborate work.

Xbox gamers, including both those with wireless or wired controllers, have a lot to be excited about in 2023. Right now, Game Pass has several highly regarded titles in its catalog, and it recently added GTA 5 to its options, allowing gamers to play one of the most popular games of all time. Also, Starfield is coming in September, which will certainly be Microsoft’s largest first-party game of the year. It promises dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of gameplay for players while they explore a huge galaxy with a thousand planets.
