Mercedes appoints new charging partner in the UK

Mercedes-Benz UK has appointed Ohme as its new home charge point provider, joining the previously-signed partnership with PodPoint. Under the agreement, Mercedes-Benz will recommend Ohme to customers and an Ohme Home Pro charger will be on display in Mercedes-Benz showrooms.

While the communication does not include the charging capacities on the Ohme home chargers, Mercedes specifies: “Charging a Mercedes-Benz EQA with a 66kWh battery from 0 to 80 per cent charge with an Ohme smart charger on a smart off-peak tariff, such as Octopus Intelligent, could cost just 3.96 pounds.”

A brief look at Ohme’s website shows that the company has two home chargers on offer: the untethered Ohme ePod and the tethered Ohme Home Pro mentioned above. Both feature a 7 kW charging capacity and are compatible with Type 2 connectors, while the ePod is also capable of charging with a Type 1 connector. Both are smart charging stations, meaning that they charge when power prices are low.

Ohme has been chosen by @MercedesBenzUK as its new official home charging partner.

It will recommend Ohme’s smart charging tech to EV drivers who need a home charger.

“Ohme’s technological innovation and excellent approach towards customer service and professionalism align with the core values of Mercedes-Benz,” said Jason Allbutt, Head of Product and Planning from Mercedes-Benz. David Watson, CEO of Ohme added: “This collaboration with Mercedes-Benz underlines Ohme’s position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic smart charging companies in the UK. We’re looking forward to introducing Mercedes-Benz customers to the benefits of smart charging and supporting its network of agents.”

Ohme was recently named as ‘Fast Track Company of the Year’ in the 2023 UK Green Business Awards as well as ‘Best Electric Charging Point Provider’ by Business Motoring. The company also has existing agreements with the Volkswagen Group and the Motability charging scheme, which aims to “make the switch to EVs easier for disabled people through reliable, personal e-mobility.”
