Man Charged With Felony Burglary To Multiple Cars: Mount Prospect P.D.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A Chicago man is accused of two felony charges of burglary to a vehicle, along with three misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to a vehicle, following a series of incidents in July. Jermaine Maxwell, 20, of the 7800 block of South Wood Street, Chicago, was arrested on Aug. 24 following an investigation into crimes in the 400 block of North Pine Street and 600 block of North Wille Street on July 28.

Bond was set at $50,000 and Maxwell is due back in court on Sept. 22.

According to police, a 911 call was received at around 12:11 p.m. July 28 that two suspicious people wearing gloves and hoods were looking into houses. Police responded to the area and located the two subjects, who then ran when they saw the marked police cars arrive.

Maxwell was apprehended behind a strip mall at 1 West Rand Road. Police said property not belonging to Maxwell was discovered in close proximity to him when he was taken into custody. As no victims were identified, Maxwell was released during the initial investigation.

In the following days, police said multiple burglary and criminal trespass to vehicle cases in the area where Maxwell was seen were reported. Detectives continued the investigation and were able to locate and use video and electronic evidence to connect Maxwell to the reported burglary and criminal trespass to motor vehicles reported in the 400 block of North Pine Street and the 600 block of North Wille Street. Maxwell was arrested on Aug. 24 while at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview.
